A Beverage Consulting Service

Want a little more than just a Pop-Up? We’ve got you covered. Our team has worked at some of the best bars in the world with 10+ years experience collectively. Sbagliato can curate a beverage program to your specific needs. Let us help you achieve your goals.

What does sbagliato mean anyway?

Why is that your name?

First and foremost, the word sbagliato literally translates to “mistaken” in Italian. Most of us pronounce the word phonetically, “spAHg-lee-AH-toh” but in reality it is much more pleasant. CoFounder Mario Firmani has strong Italian roots and is fluent in Italian, If you see him, ask him how to say it, seriously.

Second, the Negroni Sbagliato is a classic cocktail. It is said to have been created by a busy bartender who mistakenly used sparkling white wine instead of gin in a Negroni. The Negroni Sbagliato is light, crisp, and sparkling, the same elements of a cocktail that our brand, Sbagliato NYC, strives to achieve in every bottling.

Third, and maybe the most important reason of all…f%ck it! The sbagliato captures the heart of what we do and we love the story of turning a humble idea into something great!

Ian Alexander is the Head Bartender at the Dead Rabbit in New York City, having joined the team in June of 2017, and works to apply his acute understanding of service standards to both the bar and the floor. He is passionate about cocktails and about creating a world class experience of Irish hospitality for every guest that walks into the bar.

In January of 2019, Ian graduated the rigorous Bar 5 Day course with distinction, and was in the top percentile in all areas of focus including blind tasting of spirits, cocktail history, spirit production, and bartending technique.

Ian began his career in cocktail bartending while attending Rutgers University in New Jersey, where he tended bar at Due Mari, a Chef Michael White restaurant, quickly working his way up to the Head Bartender position there. He became interested in spirits and cocktails and refined his knowledge under acclaimed Sommelier and Beverage Director, Hristo Zisovski.

Ian grew up in East Brunswick, New Jersey, and currently lives in Brooklyn, New York.

Mario Firmani is a bartender at The Dead Rabbit in New York City’s financial district, but he has been immersed in food and beverage culture since childhood. He spent much of his early years helping his parents at their small Italian restaurant in Manalapan, New Jersey. He attributes his passion for delivering top notch hospitality to these experiences as well as his Italian heritage. "At meals and family gatherings, my parents and grandparents never sat down until everyone was taken care of. It's something that has stuck with me my entire life. Today, when I'm taking care of guests, it feels like I'm channelling their energy," says Mario.

He started his bartending career in college when he was hired to work as a busboy at Due Mari, a restaurant by acclaimed chef, Michael White. He immediately stood out for his work ethic, being promoted to bartender after only six weeks. His knowledge and skills behind the bar grew rapidly as he learned to innovate and push boundaries alongside fellow Due Mari alumni and co-founder, Ian Alexander. Together, they continue to motivate each other to grow professionally and perfect their craft.

Mario grew up in East Brunswick, NJ and spent summers with his grandparents in their hometown of Pretare, Italy. He currently resides in Brooklyn, New York.
